Anderson Residence Garret Anderson Shady Canyon, Irvine, California
This Spanish dwelling of humble scale and detailing is a celebrated descendant of the adobe house, with rambling gabled one story wings stretching to engage with the landscape and capture spectacular distant views. It lends inspiration from stables and shilos of masonry construction desgined by Wallace Neff, the famed California architect of the thirties. The layout of the floor plan respects the historical construcion grid governed by 4 feet spacing of exposed heavy timber rafters spanning over thickened walls. Intricate placement of various courtyards and low roofed loggias create intimate gathering areas and allow for the extension of rooms to meet the picturesque landscape.
